When I found out in 2006 that I have Alzheimer’s Disease, I was devastated. My doctor suggested that I get involved in a support group, and I did so at the Alzheimer’s Association in Purchase, NY. It was there that I met Maureen Matthews and became involved with “To Whom I May Concern.” At first, I didn’t think I could perform in a play, but I soon changed my mind. Since 2008 I have been in four performances, and I look forward to more.
Performing in “To Whom I May Concern” has given me the confidence and fortitude to take part in a medical trial, to share my love of poetry with my two support groups, and to participate actively in all sorts of activities of the Alzheimer’s Association. I also hope that watching the play will lead those in the audience to a greater understanding of the disease and how to cope with it. “
